Six steps, one sequence, for taking a small business from "we should probably use AI for something" to a system the business actually runs on. Developed by BrightMind Studio's founders, Donna Mitchell and Carl Grant, and used in every client engagement described on this site.
Where it came from
B.R.I.G.H.T. wasn't designed on a whiteboard before any client work happened. It came from the opposite direction: after enough engagements, a pattern was hard to ignore. Businesses that got lasting value from AI moved through roughly the same six stages, in the same order. Businesses that didn't, almost always skipped one, usually the first or the second-to-last.
The most common failure we saw before naming the framework: a business owner would buy an AI tool because a demo looked impressive, then spend weeks trying to force it into a workflow nobody had actually mapped. That's Integrate happening before Baseline, and it's the single most expensive ordering mistake we watched clients make. B.R.I.G.H.T. exists to put Baseline first, every time.
The other stage businesses skip is Handover. AI gets set up, it works, and then it lives entirely in one person's head, usually the owner's. The moment they're unavailable, the system stops. Handover is the deliberate, unglamorous step that makes the other five worth doing.

Who created the B.R.I.G.H.T. Framework?
Donna Mitchell and Carl Grant, BrightMind Studio's founders, developed it from repeated patterns across client engagements: businesses that got lasting value from AI followed roughly the same sequence, and ones that didn't usually skipped a stage, most often Baseline (starting with tools before understanding the actual bottleneck) or Handover (never documenting the system, so it depended on one person to keep running).
When should a business use the B.R.I.G.H.T. Framework?
Before buying any AI tool, not after. The most common mistake it's designed to prevent is what we call the reverse order: subscribing to an AI app because a demo looked impressive, then trying to retrofit it into a workflow that was never mapped. B.R.I.G.H.T. starts with Baseline, understanding the actual process, before Integrate ever introduces a tool.
Is B.R.I.G.H.T. a one-off project or an ongoing process?
Both. The first pass through Baseline to Handover is typically a defined engagement (BrightMind's Signature Services run this as a structured project with a 90-day roadmap). Thrive is deliberately open-ended: quarterly reviews, and a return to Baseline whenever the business or the AI landscape changes enough to warrant remapping.
