This one prompt framework saved me 3 hours on Monday

I'm going to give you a framework you can use today. It's not complicated. It just works.

It's called RCAI. I didn't invent it, I borrowed it, adapted it, and I use it almost every day.

The RCAI Framework

R, Role

Tell the AI who it is. "You are a [specific type of expert]." This sets the lens it thinks through. It sounds simple. The difference it makes is not.

C, Context

Tell it about your business and the situation. Two or three sentences. Don't skip this, it's the part most people leave out.

A, Action

What you actually want it to do. Be specific. "Write", "summarise", "create a plan for", "rewrite this as". Vague actions produce vague results.

I, Instructions

Constraints that shape the output. Tone, length, format, what to avoid. The more useful constraints you give, the less editing you do on the other end.

What it looks like in practice

Without RCAI:

"Write me an email to follow up with a client."

With RCAI:

"You are a professional business consultant [Role]. I run a coaching business and a client went quiet after our proposal two weeks ago [Context]. Write a follow-up email that's warm but confident, doesn't apologise for following up, and ends with a clear question that's easy to say yes to [Action]. Keep it under 150 words and avoid corporate language [Instructions]."

The second prompt takes 90 seconds longer to write. The output saves you 30 minutes of staring at a blank page.
